My thoughts exactly. Well, it is coming true. After 4 years of going back and forth on writing and stop writing, I am FINALLY on the road to getting it done.
It hasn’t always been my dream to be a published author. In fact, it was the last thing I ever thought I would be doing. I was very much into fashion and designing. I enjoyed looking a beautiful clothing, and creating my own outfits in my head. I went to school for fashion design.
I then pursued a BA in fashion marketing and management. So to be throwing all that to the wind and saying “Hey let’s write a book”, it is a foreign idea for me as well.
The inspiration hit when I took two years off to focus on myself and recover from family tragedies. I spent most of those two years with journals by my side. I filled nearly 14 journals by the end. About a little bit later, I enrolled in a writing class at my college. It was a prerequisite, and didn’t think much about it.
The professor turned out to be a publishing author and was working on his next piece of literature. I enjoyed the class, and actually looked forward to the projects that were assigned.
One day during class, the professor called me to the front to hand back my last assignment, detailing the most embarrassing moment in my life. As he handed it back, he said, “You have a great writing style. Has anyone ever told you that before.”
That is when it hit me that maybe I could do something in writing. I have two years full of journals, and plenty of memories to fill pages of a novel. I began one night and before I knew it I had 16 pages already.
But then why did it take me so long to finish? Well, most of what I was writing was based on real life experience. And in real life, not everything is pleasant nor is it always fun to face. I also got distracted. I fell in love, I graduated from college, and began working. Everything kind of took a back seat.
But the passion to finish this book never died, nor did it falter. At the same time I knew I couldn’t do this book along. I hit my wall and needed to ask for help. The second I realized I needed a ghost writer or writing coach, I told my really good friend at home. Without delay she wrote back with a contact of a ghost writer who has been in the industry for 12 years.
The next week we spoke and it clicked. I felt very comfortable talking with the lady and already got great feedback. By the end of the week, I handed in the first three sections of my book and an overview. The overview made me realize that I had left chunks of my story out that I wanted to include. It organized me in a whole new way, and got me excited about this adventure of writing again.
This is what is helping continue writing my book:
I am excited for what is to come!
